About OnlineFractionsCalculator.com

We build free fraction calculators and tutorials because too many students are stuck Googling "how to add fractions" and getting confusing answers. We want to fix that.

🎯

Our Mission

Fractions trip up more students than almost any other math topic. And it's not because fractions are impossibly hard. It's because most of the "help" out there is either a calculator that spits out an answer with zero explanation, or a textbook wall of text that puts you to sleep.

We're trying to do something different. Every tool on this site shows you the full solution, step by step. Not just "the answer is 3/4" but why it's 3/4, and how you'd get there on your own next time. That matters, because a landmark 2012 study published in Psychological Science found that 5th graders' knowledge of fractions uniquely predicted their algebra and overall math achievement in high school, even after controlling for IQ, working memory, and family income (Siegler et al., 2012).

Everything here is free. No accounts, no paywalls, no "upgrade to see step 3" nonsense. We think that's how educational tools should work.

Why We Built This

Go ahead, search "how to add fractions" right now. You'll find ten blue links, and most of them are either a plain calculator with no teaching, or a 2,000-word article that buries the actual steps under ads and filler. Neither one helps a 4th grader who's stuck on tonight's homework.

That bugged us. So we started building tools that do both things at once: give you the answer and teach you how to get it yourself. Type in 2/3 + 1/4 and you don't just see "11/12." You see the common denominator step, the conversion, the addition, and the simplification, all broken down so it actually makes sense.

Whether you're a student working through a problem set, a parent trying to help at the kitchen table, or a teacher looking for a quick demo tool, that's who we built this for.

📐 Accuracy First

We verify every calculation and example using Python's fractions library before publishing. If a number is wrong, the whole lesson falls apart.

📖 Step-by-Step Learning

Our calculators show the full solution process. You see each step, not just the final answer, so you can follow along and repeat it on paper.

🌐 Free for Everyone

No subscriptions. No sign-ups. No "create an account to continue." You open the page and the tools just work.

📱 Works on Any Device

Built mobile-first, so it runs fine on a classroom Chromebook, a phone on the bus, or a desktop at home.
